Alexandra Mitiku (b.1992) is a Korean-Ethiopian artist and poet exploring intersections of migration and imperialism; quantum time; memory vs monument.
The emotional structure of her process is a Korean cultural sentiment 한/Han. Roughly, it describes the complex layers of unresolved grief, rage and bitterness in response to personal experiences and social systems of injustice - it is also the endurance and transformation from this. It is understood to evolve as it is passed down generations.
Her works have most recently been acquired and exhibited in Kiasma Contemporary art museum, and in a solo show at Titanik Gallery. Currently Alexandra is working on a 3-year long project 'the bird people', which is an accumulation of evolving artworks.
